Kunstisümpoosium ´Maalides Metsa´
16-22.juulil, EKL Muhu Kunstitalus.

Loodus on alati olnud Eesti kultuurist lahutamatu osa, seda nii hingestatud looduslüürika ja müstitsismina kui ainesena, millest teadlikult kaugeneda. Just loodus on see tugipunkt, millele Eesti kujutava kunsti traditsioon näib püsivalt toetuvat ning loodus on traditsiooniliselt ka prisma, läbi mille inimene oma elu ning olemist mõistab ja ettekujutab.. või ehk millest tervenisti distantseeruda soovib. Olles eurooplased näime endiselt olevat valdavalt metslased ehk metsarahvas, kellel sammal, seened ja puudemühin tuntavalt veres püsivad ning kuidagi lahti ei lase, tahame siis seda või mitte.
Kutsume suvel üheks nädalaks kokku ligi 20 maalikunstnikku et näha milline on, või saab olla, kaasaegne loodusmaal. Ning kas selle viljelemise mõte jääb kaasagsest elust maha või on looduse piltidel tänapäeva inimesele veel midagi öelda.
Sümpoosiumi seminare ja töötube viivad läbi Prof. Jaan Elken, Hasso Krull, Leila Lükko jt.
Sümpoosiumi seminariteemadeks on- Metsa roll ja mõiste kultuuriajaloos, Mets Eesti kunstis, Ökokriitika-mis see on.
Hilissügisel seisavad Muhu Kunstitalus valminud ja metsale pühendatud teosed kõrvuti paljude teiste Eesti kunstnike maalidega näitusel Swedbank privaatpanganduse galeriis, taasluues näitusepinnale ettekujutlust kunstimõtte arengutest, Eestimaa suvest, looduse lüürikast ja olemise füüsikast.
Eesti Maalikunstnike Liit pakub Muhu Kunstitalu näitusel publikupreemia pälvivale teosele võimaluse osaleda novembris EML aastanäitusel Mõte.Lavastus, Haapsalu Linnagaleriis.

Osalejad majutatakse 2-5 voodikohaga tubadesse talu 100 aasta vanustes aitades.
Maalisümpoosium kestab 7 päeva, mille jooksul toimuvad arutelud ja seminarid, esitlused, maalisessioonid ning viime läbi nii jalgsi kui ratastel ringkäike saarel et tutvuda saare loodusliku ja kultuurilise fenomeniga.
16. juulil koguneme ning veedame päeva ümbruskonnaga tutvudes ja õhtuse filmideseansiga Muhu Kunstitalu õuel.
17. - 20 . juulil toimuvad maalimissessioonid saare eriilmelistes paikades vaheldumisi seminarivormis loengute ja temaatiliste aruteludega.
21. juulil avame Kunstitalu sepikojas sümpoosiumi esimese näituse.
22. juuli on puhke- ja ärasõidupäev
NB. Üritus dokumenteeritakse teksti-, foto-ja filmimaterjalidena, valmib videoformaadis dokumentaalkaadritel põhinev kataloog.
Osalejatelt ootame valmisolekut eluks saja aasta vanustes muinsuskaitsealustes hoonetes, osalemist köögitoimkondades ning isikliku maalivarustuse olemasolu.
Muhu Kunstitalu asub 10 km kaugusel lähimast poest ja bussipeatusest, mistõttu isikliku sõiduvahendi olemasolu on igati tervitatav.. Olgu selleks siis auto või jalgratas.
Osa on võimalik võtta nii kogu sümpoosiumist (vabade kohtade arv 12) kui üksikutest päevadest. Kogu ürituse toitlustustasu on 60, üksikutel päevadel 15.
Kohtade arv on piiratud, vajalik on eelnev registreerimine. Registreerimise kinnitab toitlustustasu maksmine.

Osalejade omavastutuse alla kuuluvad kohale-ja ärasõit, muu sümpoosiumiga seoses vajaminev transport, töövahendid ja maalikast. Valik ilmastikukindlat riietust ja ujumistarbed. Tervisekindlustus vms ettevalmistus. Kunstitalu osutab vajadusel esmaabi, lähim med.asutus on 10 km kaugusel. Tõsisemate probleemide puhul tuleb abi Kuressaarest.

Art symposium Painting the Forest discusses the traditions of nature painting
16-22th of July, Muhu Art Residency of Estonian Artists Association
Nature has always been integral to Estonian culture, whether in the shape of spiritual nature lyrics or mysticism or as the matter to knowingly distant oneself from. Nature seems to be the continuous cornerstone of Estonian visual arts; moreover, nature has traditionally evolved into the lens through which human beings interpret and envision their life and existence… or into the phenomenon they might wish to completely distance themselves from. Whether we want to or not, as Europeans we still mostly seem to be savages of sorts, people of the forest who will always feel the moss, mushrooms and the rustling of the wind in the treetops in their blood.
We are going to gather together nearly 20 painters for one week to see the current state or the different possibilities of contemporary nature painting. We are also going to discuss whether nature painting is out of place and date in the contemporary society or does it still speak to modern people.
Seminars and workshops at the symposium are carried out by Prof. Jaan Elken, artists Tiiu Rebane and Karl-Kristjan Nagel, as well as several other invited lecturers.
The seminar topics include: the role and concept of Forest in cultural history, Forest in Estonian arts, Ecocriticism – what is it?.
In late autumn, the pieces completed in Muhu Art Residence honouring the forest, will assume their places next to the paintings by other Estonian artists in an exhibition that recreates the vision of the developments in Estonian art, Estonian summer, the lyrical qualities of nature, and the physics of being in a shared space.
The Estonian Painters’ Association offers the piece that is awarded the audience reward at the exhibition Muhu Art Residence the opportunity of participating in their annual exhibition Idea. Production (Mõte. Lavastus) in Haapsalu City Gallery in November.
Terms and registration-
Participants will be accommodated in 2 to 5-bed rooms in a 100-year-old farmhouse.
The Painting Symposium will last for 7 days, during which discussions and seminars, presentations, painting sessions will take place, and we make both walking and cycling tours on the island to discover the natural and cultural phenomenon of the Muhu island.
On July 16, we will gather and spend the day exploring the surroundings and have an evening with filmprogram in the Art Residence yard.
17th - 20th Painting sessions are held in different parts of the island, alternating with seminars and thematic discussions.
On July 21, we will open the first exhibition of symposium in the Art Residence gallery.
July 22 is a day off and a return journey
NB. The event will be documented as text, photo and film, and a catalog based on documentary frames will be made in video format.

We expect from participants to live in hundred-year-old heritage buildings, participation in kitchen units and bringing of personal painting equipment.
Muhu Art Hall is 10 km from the nearest shop and bus stop, therefore the owning of a personal vehicle is welcomed. Be it a car or a bicycle.
Residency has two available bicycles if needed.
It is possible to take part as in the whole of the symposium (the number of vacancies 12) as only some selected days. The cost of the whole event catering is 60 EUR , of individual days 15 EUR.
The number of places is limited, prior registration is required. Registration is confirmed by the payment of the catering fee.

Participant is responsible for his or hers travel, other transportation for and during the symposium, tools and canvases for painting, a weatherproof clothing and swimming accessories. Health insurance or other preparation concerning the health. Muhu Art Residency provides first aid if needed, + the nearest ambulatory is 10 km away. For more serious problems, assistance would be needed from Kuressaare.
